Child sponsorship is making big difference to Taonga and her family

"Is my sponsorship support making a difference?"

This is question that all child sponsors wonder at times … and, recently, one sponsor took the time to ask us.

We reached out to her sponsored child in Luangwa, Zambia. Here’s what Rosemary (the big sister to 8-year-old sponsored child, Taonga) said:

“May I take the opportunity to tell you that ChildFund has given our family some goats for milk and meat. We also sell these goats to buy school requirements. I would like to further inform you that ChildFund has made many developments in our community. We have clean drinking water from boreholes drilled by ChildFund. Schools and clinics have been constructed. Our family and the whole community have improved living standards. Taonga is in grade two and is a clever and bright girl, she got second position out of 45 pupils in class.”

Taonga and Rosemary come from a low-income family in the Luangwa district. Their parents are peasant farmers who earn about $500 NZ dollars annually, making it very difficult to provide their children with enough food, clothing, medical attention and basic education. After a long struggle, they sought help from ChildFund. Taonga is a healthy child who has started school since being sponsored and she enjoys playing with homemade dolls.
